this was a term we use to ensure that certain things would be done in a certain way or to assure that certain things would not be leaked out.
it is a word that carries with it upmost significance. bearing with it one's honour and trust.
and as with such a case, whenever someone places a high emphasis on a particular thing, be it a person or an object, we tend to get easily affected by the outcome.
thus, if or when this promise is broken, the hurt would be immense as would the degree of trust.
however, as much as man aspiresto be trustworthy, they too know that as humans, they tend to err.
and thus, they invented the term:

which by the same source indicates

Feeling or expressing sympathy, pity, or regret: I'm sorry I'm late."
and hence the cycle is complete.
man promises but fails to comply thus ending up apologising.
truth be told, we are tuly a bunch of
intelligent beings.
however, with this, is honour and integrity still practised and looked upon as virtues of an exemplary person?
does the word of one man still matter?
in this world of man eat man.
have we lost all sense of righteousness?
