freshmen orientation ay 2005/2006
and all the things that do matter

it has indeed been a long time since my last entry. the last time i tried to publish something, my effort was all for naught when i accidentally deleted the entire entry.
what a waste of good thoughts and energy. pui`

anway, the topic of discussion previously was specifically dedicated for freshmen orientation.

i wanted to record down my thoughts and feelings with regards to this event to serve as a source of memory in the years to come. however, the factors restricting the actual action were basically a lack of interest in blogging and perhaps the desire to preserve the fresh memories within before letting it all out and safe kept here.

many would know that i have a horrid memory indeed. with names, dates, addresses, numbers and the list goes on. same goes for memories, which is a good thing in the sense that i can never hold a grudge for long.

so, after being so wishy washy, after committing a memory down to words, i tend to lose it...probably because of the effort i put into the entry, pouring my entire heart and soul into ensuring that each recount is as accurate as can be.

(i really ought to make a part 1/2/3 of this entry, we can all see how naggy i will be in the future, pity my children and hubba. =x)

before i digress any further into the unknown...let's resume with the agenda proper.

this year marks the end of everything familar to me. what was my life and soul for the past three years has now reached a climax and ending. being in tpsu, bowling and numerous school activities, living a life where the school compounds were just as familar as my home. not forgetting, the sense of belonging and warmth i feel with things associated with TP.

but most importantly, this was what saw me through the best three years of my life. an age where adulthood meets adolescence. a turning point in my life if not all.

school term was packed with the internships and projects aplenty, forcing me to surrender all projects other than the one closest to my heart. freshmen orientation.

the planning stages were hell, what with the clashes of schedules and the short time span to plan and execute out the correct procedures as meted by the school system. this coupled with school work and other activities, high expectations culiminated in a high level of stress.

truth be told, i was on the brink of surrendering and raising that little white flag so many times.

but i perservered and made it my personal challenge to overcome. it might seem very cliche now seeing that all the sports advertisements have commercialised perserverance, determination and the term impossible.

however, it is only at junctures of your life when you face crossroads and the pressure to make the Correct decision that these terms actually come into play. It's not as glamourised as many make it out to be, and more often than not, pain is involved. Be it physical or emotional.

That aside, the committee met a couple of times to decide on the necessary and to share the ideas of what would seem beneficial for the programme. Initually, there were many mixed feelings involved, some individualistic behaviour and those who were just willing to go with the flow.

However, i believe that as the meetings went on, ideas started changing and many bonds were forged or deepened. True, that certain things could be done without but not everyone understands the whole flow of the programme, so how else to ensure that the success of the camp rests not on one person but the main committee as a whole. In this way, no one is indispensable, which is very important should something crop up.

Like the hokkien saying, tio toto also not so accurate, things did crop up and a mess they had a knack of creating. Luckily, major disasters were avoided with the brainstorming and cooperation of the team.

In adversity, we stand strong. Thank you for encouraging me to stand strong when the drafts come a blowing.

The actual event was a blast with a truck load of memories I can never ever forget. Some i'll retrieve piece by piece, thought by thought to treasure the moments that i can never relive again.
1. Frisbee
  • hit by a frisbee on the head, not ONCE but TWICE. mind you while minding my own business SLEEPING.
  • saf putting a cap on my head to 'protect' me
  • boon asking me why i woke up and to go back to sleep
  • all the rest asking whether it HURT. sigh.... yes it did. =)
  • ABC : undeafeated champions
  • Isk toppling on top of me, spraining my back side muscle. yeow~
  • Zhehan who cannot catch for nuts
  • Yaoming passing to the wrong team for the umpteen time
  • one macho clap
  • everyone screaming their head off...
  • 5 sec pass

2. Main Comm

  • Spastic cheers aplenty.
  • Lameometer skits which we sadly had no chance to perform.
  • Sleeping during debrief. Nice heart to heart session we had there Saf.
  • Being just so enthu in every thing that we thought upon impromtu.
  • The tears shed during the final debrief.
Kai (like a baby), Hanwei(medicated oil huh), Grace and Zhehan.
Try as i might, i really could not bring tears to my eyes, it was there just maybe there are emotions that go beyond tears. An unexpressable sorrow mingled with joy and a lingering sense of attachment.

3. RADON : ramoo, rawok, razee.

  • Make Love, Not War.
  • R(a) *muack muack*
  • Ai yoh Cheer
  • Funky Chicken
  • Froggy Game
  • Chop Chilli
  • Certificates
  • The bond within, winners at heart, we sure had quite a blast! I'm glad you all had so much fun.
  • The making of tshirts which i do not have. Yasin my handy man. Shikai the hanger. The sprayers, Nisa and two freshies(paiseh). Buyer, Shaz.
  • Final Clash strategy. Great wall of Female Chests.

4. AOB All Other Business

  • 'Scandals' Peter and Mouse.
  • Radon. ahem... too many to list.

The above pretty much summarises the ongoings. All in all, everything went smoothly taking into consideration all the factors and challenges faced. I am truly appreciative for having a close knit team to work with, it felt so much more like family this time round. =)

Even though we had our moments, somehow or other we managed to overcome those disputes and obstacles. Not as a singular entity but as a team.

Freshmen Orientation Ay05/06 Officials, I salute you.
It has been my honour working with you and a real pleasure too!

Freshies:
We loved having you! Your spontaneity was brillant.
Without you, this would never have been possible.

I hope in some way or another, I've managed to make a positive impact in your life.

This is indeed a year I'll never be able to forget.

It's the little things that we share, the love and joy that's in the air.
It's all the little things!
